for those of you who don't know I wrote Tony and told him that that of course was my subjective experience of the situation, no one is really an asshole or saint per se, different people are experiencing the world differently in each situation, Tony IS a hell of a singer! Check this out: http://tonyldemarco.com/

I agree with you Dave. I mean I am a stranger after all. I don't know if it was all those years I spent in the party business, but I immediately go up to people and expect an enthusiastic response. I mean he did wait for me and wanted to check me out before he decided whether I was kosher enough to talk to.

Remember, this is my subjective reaction to my experience. I am, by no means, right; I'm just honest about what I'm thinking and feeling at the time. Tony, as I wrote, turned out to be golden. He turned out to be the most honest and giving individual; he just needed time to once me over, I guess.

I've done the same thing with people I'm sure. The same thing happened last night with Patrick Hanlon who paddled the Mississippi and met up with me last night in Uptown, Minneapolis. At first reserved and then by the end of the night, making fun of me to his wife as if we'd been best friends for years. It was great.

I can't wait to get to St. Louis. Thanks for your comment!

Ryan- You were a little rough on Tony, Minnesotans are by nature reserved, so his intial reaction to seeing you on the river is not surprising. Keep the posts coming daily if possible, continuity makes the overall experience for your readers more interesting. I bet when you get to St Louis you will have multiple offers for a brew, budweiser country you know!

It's working out great! Props to Urban Boat Builders of the Twin Cities for their ingenuity. I clocked that baby the next day at 8.2 mph!!! It held steady at 7.6 for stretches and probably averaged overall 6. The next day there was less wind but still it was holding a 4 average which I have to exert extreme effort, paddling only, to maintain. So I would say my shoulders owe UBB a birthday cake. How's the month-long retirement! I watched some of your videos. Awesome!
