I learned some time back that things in the South just go by 'by and by', sort of like Samuel Clemons character of Huck Finn. I too am planning a river boat ride down the Pee Dee river, from Society Hill to the Atlantic Ocean. I figure it will give me the answer as to if I feel like I can tackle the mighty Mississippi. My plan is to take my boat in May and start up at the top and float down, using as little motor power as I can, though my boat has an inboard/outboard Mercruiser engine and outdrive arangement. I want to take along a small john boat for the photography aspect of it, filming from a distance rather than entirely from the inside of the boat. I too had once thought some of the people in the south as 'Rednecks', but truth be known, I kind of relate to them and their way of thinking. Well I'm reading here month by month of your story and getting definate ideas of what I might need to figure before starting my trip. I want to bring my lifelong friend Lance, we both kind of have this idea of doing something neat before we get too old for it.

You really are a wonderful story teller, Ryan.
I think as you grow more and more respecting, acknowledging and validating the power and beauty of the river you are in fact becoming one with the river. Moving with the river, like the river - flowing in and out and through other people's lives. As you grow in respect for the river you grow in respect for others and how they relate and move together in synchronicity (earth, water, weather, animals, flora, humanity, etc. = God in Action.
Stay safe,
Love,
Mom
